BUPA

In response to their ESOS requirements for assessing energy efficiency across the business, BUPA looked at ways to reduce their carbon footprint by 20% across each of their care home sites in the UK.

Looking primarily at energy technology, in early 2015 BUPA invited several EPC contractors to tender for their framework to deliver the work for LED lighting, CHP’s and solar PV across over 140 sites by the end of August.

Initially tendering to install solar PV on two pilot sites within EvoEnergy’s region (designated by BUPA), EvoEnergy were successfully awarded one site – Altham Court.

Altham Court is a single site care home based in Lincolnshire with approximately 80 beds. The specification was to design and install a 30 kWp system on a challenging single storey building where the roof top was split across many orientations and subject to varying shading from nearby trees and facilities.

With work starting almost immediately, it was important that EvoEnergy did a great job to give them any chance of securing a place on the final framework which would guarantee additional work for the popular private health care group.

Once the installation was completed, BUPA then investigated the final delivery including how it was installed, the performance of the system and also listened to feedback from the care home staff and residents for how satisfied they were with EvoEnergy whilst on-site.

Shortly after the review process, EvoEnergy were pleased to hear that they had excelled in all areas of the project, which was backed by an exceptional appraisal from the care home itself. Consequently, EvoEnergy were awarded a place on the framework and were then allocated 16 additional care home sites to compete for against other solar PV installers that had also made the framework.

After surveying the additional 16 sites and proposing the systems with market leading SolarEdge technology, EvoEnergy were awarded the jobs for 7 of the sites. Shortly after being awarded the work, BUPA then asked EvoEnergy to compete for a further 13 sites, of which 8 were won.

In total, EvoEnergy have been awarded 15 BUPA care home sites ranging from 30 kWp to 121 kWp systems in size, with a mixture of single-site and multi-site jobs. These care homes ranged in size from 80 bed to 160 beds.
